The R3 Science

science-photo.jpgYou probably have no idea how many toxic ingredients your body absorbs every day. Typically, skin care products contain ingredients like parabens, dyes, artificial fragrance, emulsifiers, lathering agents and other chemicals that have literally zero value to your skin. In fact, these ingredients are worse for you than you may realize. They may actually contribute to hormonal or endocrine changes that could cause inflammation, leading to a laundry list of health issues. By now we know that anything applied to the skin will, over time, be absorbed into the blood stream. Which means, if you’re applying skin care ingredients containing toxins, you’re most definitely absorbing them.

Parabens and other toxic chemicals are added to cosmetic products to preserve them, enhance the texture, fragrance, or appearance of the product. These toxic ingredients, however, actually “block” the receptor sites for the good nutrients from being absorbed effectively. (Kind of like a bouncer at the hottest night club in town, who selectively lets people through the door and then doesn’t save room for the people delivering the main event)

You’ve likely heard a lot of buzz about using natural and/or organic skin care products. “All-natural”, “organic” and “non-GMO” are all wonderful things to look for…but the truth is, not all non-organic ingredients are bad for us. And, let’s face it—when it comes to skin care, we want results. All-natural ingredients often don’t have the ability to produce the desired skin-changing outcomes that the right synthetic ingredients—in the right formulas—can. While R3 Skin Nutrients does use natural and organic ingredients whenever applicable, our products also contain non-toxic synthetic ingredients. We publish our ingredients and explain how they work so that you can fully understand and be aware of what you are absorbing into your body. We believe the best decision is an informed decision.

R3 Skin Nutrients uses the exact isomer (chirally correct) form of a nutrient, which is more efficiently utilized by the skin. Many molecules have two “mirror-image” parts—they are the same in all ways physically and chemically with one exception: which is how these individual isomers, or single enantiomers (meaning opposite), link together and react with other molecules in the body.

molecules2.jpgChirality is often referred to as the “handedness” of molecules—right-handed or left-handed. When a product is Chirally Correct, it means that it contains only the side of the molecules that interact positively with the skin. This is indicated on our labels with either an L or a D in front of the ingredient. L stands for left, and D stands for right.

It’s all about the science, but the moral of the story is that R3 only uses the best parts of the best ingredients in order to produce the best results in the shortest time possible. We do not use fillers or added fragrances.  We only add an ingredient if it has a job to do—no space-taker-uppers allowed!

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound derived from the hemp plant. Our CBD has 0% THC (the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana) and is of the highest pharmaceutical grade. Our product is certified organic and the CBD oil is extracted from the plant using steam (CO2) extraction. This avoids any toxic contamination of the oil.

How does it work? CBD works with the receptors we already have in our bodies. These receptors are part of the endocannabinoid system known as ECS. This system works to maintain homeostasis (balance). The delivery of skin nutrients containing CBD can enhance the the work R3 skin nutrients are already doing. Cannabidiol studies have not been researched until more recently as CBD that is THC free is now legal in all 50 states. What is clear from the studies that have been done, is that CBD oil functions as an anti-inflammatory. So how does that translate in skin care? One way is the ability to help calm skin, particularly skin that is acne-prone. Because acne is an inflammatory condition, research indicates CBD's soothing properties can help diminish breakouts and reduce redness. Recent findings have also shown that CBD has the potential to decrease excessive sebum (oil) production, as well as help offset other triggers of acne. CBD's potential as an alternative acne solution is exciting.

It turns out that CBD oil also has antioxidant properties which contributes to the research indicating it can help lessen the visible signs of aging skin. By counteracting free-radical damage, CBD in skin care may be able to help visibly diminish issues like wrinkles, skin dullness and ruddy skin tone.

Another benefit of CBD oil in skin care is that is has been found to have significant soothing properties. Its substantial skin calming and skin normalizing effects can help minimize issues related to skin sensitivity, including redness. Even if you don't think of your skin as "sensitive" per se, all skin types are affected by environmental stressors, so CBD's soothing mechanism can help keep skin balanced. In considering adding R3 products containing CBD, please don't hesitate to contact us with questions and/or help in constructing your best skin care regimen.

R3 Skin Nutrients are nutrient-concentrated, thus the “Nutrients” in the product name. Using the latest scientific research to deliver optimal synergistic activity, R3 works to achieve repair of skin issues, restore health of dry, aging skin and regenerate skins cells for dry, aging or over-treated skin.

With some products, results can be seen in as little as thirty minutes! But, most folks see a difference in 2-4 weeks.

Because our products are nutrient-concentrated, it’s not just about “building collagen and elasticity”, or over-exfoliating like many skin care lines. The long term goals and effects of these formulas are designed to improve the overall health of your skin. Sure, we have products that will literally reverse the aging of your skin—that’s a sweet bonus. But the main focus is to give your skin the vitamins and nutrients it needs to be healthy both inside and out. Improving blood circulation and oxygenation of the skin, limiting inflammation, revitalizing your skin’s membranes and connective tissues and detoxing and neutralizing toxins found in the skin tissues produces real, cumulative, and long-lasting visible results. That’s the “long game”.
